Serbia

The Republic of Serbia is located on the Balkan Peninsula in southeastern Europe. The climate is continental. It was part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia until 1991, when Croatia and Slovenia declared independence. For a while it was in alliance with Montenegro, but later they separated and became independent. Serbia borders with Hungary in the north; with Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the west; with Montenegro, Albania and Macedonia in the south; with Bulgaria and Romania in the east. The economy is slowly recovering from sanctions and NATO bombing in 1999. Constant stumbling point to getting closer to the European Union is unresolved political situation. The population is mostly engaged in agriculture. Vojvodina is one of the most fertile plains of Europe, and there is developed fruit growing - its main export item is raspberries. It is, also, developed mountain tourism. The perspective in the development of rural and spa tourism is becoming obvious lately.
